"You already know..."
So instead of making a list of everything going on, I just say “You already know” over and over again until I can get to the real conversation.
Right now in you, and in everyone you can see, is a heart that’s beating that you’re not in charge of.
All of us are here by something we’re not in charge of.
You’re… here… because of something you’re not in charge of.
If you can for 30 seconds, place your hand on your heart and find your heartbeat. Sit with it. Spend time with that part of you that you’re not in charge of.
Life is a paradox between the agency you have to become and the Grace that is forming your becoming.
You have a choice everyday how and what you’re going to do with this one life you got. But you must also allow space to let Grace work out in you what It wants to accomplish.
What’s been stirring in you?
What are you longing for?
What questions are you walking around with?
Sometimes on our darkest days we lose hope that Grace is at work at all. In these unseen times we can reach to our very own heartbeat as a doorway to the Presence of Grace in our own life. Silently working behind the scenes. Sustaining all that we have forgotten in the noise of life. Forming us through the intention of Love one beat at a time.
I met with my Spiritual Director yesterday and I was telling him in this busy season of life that my times of prayer have mostly been in my car or the occasional walk around my neighborhood. I told him that I’ve been defaulting back to a familiar prayer which is just to repeat “You already know.” It’s what Jesus tells his disciples about prayer… that your Father in Heaven (Grace) already knows everything you need before you even ask. So instead of making a list of everything going on, I just say “You already know” over and over again until I can get to the real conversation. The conversation behind the conversation. The questions that ask:
Do you know me?
Do you love me?
Do you have any plans for me?
Is my life going anywhere?
Am I missing what’s important to living?
Can I change? Should I change?
What constitutes a good life?
Can I help?
Do you want me for your plans in the world?
How can I be a contribution?
Have you forgotten about me?
Beloved, you have not been forgotten.
The evidence is there in the very thump thump thump running through your veins.
See you out there….
I have some upcoming Say Yes shows….. would love to meet you in person if I’m in your hood. More information on the shows here.
