In prayer,
sometimes we wonder
“is this all up to me?”….
The truth of our lives is that from time to time we are faced with a reality that we have no power over what is happening. We really don’t know all of what is happening.
And it’s in these moments that our faith can be questioned.…
Do I have enough faith?
Do I need more? Is it all up to me?
Do things change based on how much, or right, or correctly I pray?
The poet Mary Oliver said,
I don’t know exactly what a prayer is.
But I do know how to pay attention…
How to be idle and blessed.
When we consider the lilies, the birds of the air…
we see that Giver of all this is at work in all kinds of hidden and miraculous ways.
And it is in this consideration we realize we are also in the
same Sacred River of Divine Intentionality.
Here’s a poem for your consideration
This is a series of images and meditations I put together to “re-image” our idea of what prayer can be. I think we often feel like we fail at prayer because we can’t accomplish the internal image of what we think prayer is (hands clasped on a mountain at sunset for example). I put this altogether in a series of posters called Teach Us To Pray.
