In prayer, we can often feel like we “don’t know what to say”…
How about this…
Ever turn on the radio, turn up the song and say “this is my song!”
What’s happening in this moment?
Somehow the artist sonically and lyrically has perfectly described what it feels like to be in your skin.
Sometimes in prayer we have all the words.
Sometimes we don’t have any.
In these wordless seasons, we can draw from a whole tradition of women and men who have transcribed the deepest things we would like to say in words, songs, and images.
What should you pray?
Well… what’s your favorite song right now?
…
I’ve been playing this one the last few days…..
or since geese are flying overhead everyday here….
This is a series of images and meditations I put together to “re-image” our idea of what prayer can be. I think we often feel like we fail at prayer because we can’t accomplish the internal image of what we think prayer is (hands clasped on a mountain at sunset for example). I put this altogether in a series of posters called Teach Us To Pray.
I soo love the Mystery of Prayer- the silently entering in to Love, the cry of the Spirit from the Deep Heart; the beautifuuly constructed prayers prayed for centuries yet everyday new when we pray in love, the abandoned praise of a bouncy song- the cry of St Columba’s hymn, ‘Be Thou My Vision…’. Such Love holding us- and building as as we hang on to Faith. Thank dear soul.
