We often say, “just my brain”
When we should say, “Oh no my life.”
It’s less about where your head is at
And more about identifying
what your head is in
That leads to healing.
I’ve made a couple prayer books with my friend Justin McRoberts and we are currently working on our third one together called In The Low - Honest Prayers for Dark Seasons. It’s a series of image and word prayers as a spiritual companion through the season of depression.
I’m feverishly working on nothing else this month… but I thought I’d take a pause and show you a rough draft illustration for the next book.
So…. Question to you all….
Can you make out what’s happening in this image?
What resonates with you?
Anything unclear?
Would you be so kind to share your comments with me?
Thanks!

Everyone else has more eloquent comments but when I saw this image i pretty much instantly started crying so… it creates a visceral reaction in me as someone living with trauma and depression.
Feelings of stuck-ness in the blue depths. It's interesting because the whale should be at home in the depths, but the entanglement (good word from others' comments) makes it all seem hostile instead
