Hi friends…

First… I just want to say thank you for following and supporting this substack. I have some exciting things planned coming up in the proceeding months but I also hope that what I have been posting is an encouragement to you as well. Your kind messages and financial subscriptions really keep me going during these in between times.

I want to invite you in a little deeper.

For years I have had a dedicated community that has supported me financially on Patreon. A number of people asked if they could just help me be an artist - no strings attached - and financially support me as a creator in the world. And they have! They don’t support me because I give them anything specific in return… they just want me to keep going. To keep listening. To keep translating this pilgrimage into an image. And that’s what I’ve been doing for over a decade now.

Throughout my life I have supported many different individuals in the work they do because I believe in their voice and contribution in the world. It’s honestly some of the greatest things I’ve ever done. And to have that returned to me….

Well…. What is it like?

Most consistently it’s evidence against the argument that this career in art making isn’t going to work out.

It counters the deep wound that says I’m not worthy of care.

It’s balm on the solitary nature of my work…. Which I have never enjoyed.
