Beloved,
Fear wants you to believe this is all you’ll ever get.
And it’s not intentionally being malicious. You’ve come a long way from where you’ve started, and that is something to celebrate. But fear is wary of the risk it takes to keep dreaming, and it would like you to settle for what you’ve already obtained.
Scarcity is rooted in the past. It says up until now you’ve had everything you needed... but that ends today! And it’ll say this day after day after day after day if you let it.
Scarcity wants you to close your fists and hold on tightly to what you have obtained because it is convinced that today was the last day of any kind of generosity in the world.
Scarcity survives on the premise that there are no free lunches in the world. And yet with just a pause of remembrance, you know this is not the case.
Your early developing years consisted of quite a few free lunches from momma. You can recall the time when someone split their homemade PB&J with you in the school cafeteria. You can remember the time when you were the stranger in a foreign land and were unexpectedly welcomed to the family dinner table.
Love in the flesh once invited a woman at a well to know that there can be a never ending spring that flows from inside you.
Love once invited his friends to make for themselves money belts that never wear out.
Love once told of a father that said to his son, “Everything I have is yours”....
and that simple phrase is the key to unlocking the Universe.
You don’t need to hold so tight if “everything I have is yours.”
You must open your hands so you can live into your inheritance.
This is part of a series of prayerful hand gestures representing a move from Fear to Love.
I started developing these at a certain season of my life where I was overwhelmed by anxiety and fear. Fear is the opposite of Love. It draws us away instead of drawing us in. It builds distrust instead of developing trust. It alienates instead of consummates (can I say that? Just really got into the rhyming bit). Fear was selling me narratives all day long about how nothing was going to turn out and I was all alone in it. I knew I needed to move from Fear to Love.
According to the holy scriptures, God is Love. So when we endeavor to listen to the Voice of God we are listening to the Voice of Love. I wanted to move from the arguments of Fear to the invitation of Love. I needed some new and specific prayers.
But word prayers were not enough. The anxiety was in my body and so my body needed a way to pray as well. I started to take the arguments of Fear and embody them through hand gestures. Then I came up with a corresponding hand gesture for the invitation of Love. I began doing these throughout they day whenever I felt overwhelmed by Fear and anxiety... and they really worked for me.
All these prayers are collected in an ebook available here.
