Beloved,
Fear loves not making a decision.
For one it wants you to believe that the Universe has It’s favorites and you, my friend, are not one of them. So why even try? Everything is already stacked against you...
And for another, even if the Universe is not against you, Fear wants you to think you really don’t have any power in the world. That you’re all alone in this, and getting what you hope for is actually handled by the angels of randomness.
Fear loves not making a decision because Fear wants to protect you from your superpowers.
Once you find out you have superpowers, well you know the Spiderman line, “with great power comes great responsibility.”
What super powers do you have?
Choice and Co-creation.
Trusting luck is ignoring the agency you have to choose. Choose how you see the world, how you see others, how you see yourself in the story you’re living in. Yes, there will always be forces outside of your control. But so many of our triumphant hero stories are about the choices one makes in such a situation. That same hero is available to all of us. That hero is found in your ability to choose who you want to be in every situation.
Trusting luck also ignores the reality that you are not a stranger to this world. Your ability to choose was given by the Giver of your ability to choose.... meaning you’ve been invited to co-create with the Creator of Everything.
This might seem unbelievable, but that in fact is the very reason why it’s true.
Anything you could believe about your life is too small for you.
Every time you have joyfully whispered “I don’t believe it”... was a statement logged as evidence in the court case that you have a hidden companion in this invitation called Life.
Fear trusts luck because luck doesn’t ask anything of us.
Love trusts Us because that’s the point of all of this...
choosing life together.
This is part of a series of prayerful hand gestures representing a move from Fear to Love.
I started developing these at a certain season of my life where I was overwhelmed by anxiety and fear. Fear is the opposite of Love. It draws us away instead of drawing us in. It builds distrust instead of developing trust. It alienates instead of consummates (can I say that? Just really got into the rhyming bit). Fear was selling me narratives all day long about how nothing was going to turn out and I was all alone in it. I knew I needed to move from Fear to Love.
According to the holy scriptures, God is Love. So when we endeavor to listen to the Voice of God we are listening to the Voice of Love. I wanted to move from the arguments of Fear to the invitation of Love. I needed some new and specific prayers.
But word prayers were not enough. The anxiety was in my body and so my body needed a way to pray as well. I started to take the arguments of Fear and embody them through hand gestures. Then I came up with a corresponding hand gesture for the invitation of Love. I began doing these throughout they day whenever I felt overwhelmed by Fear and anxiety... and they really worked for me.
All these prayers are collected in an ebook available here.
